Meguiar's MotorEx 2008

The Expo of POWER and PASSION

On the weekend of July 5th, 6th Australia’s largest and best indoor show was held. The major reasons MotorEx is Australia’s best show are the Dome venue gives a great feeling and atmosphere, House of Kolor Inauguration, Meguiars Superstars final and over 400 of all makes and models of vehicles.

The Venue
The dome building is unique with its high ceiling, round shape, where all other show venues are large square buildings. This is difficult to mark out the floor plan but gives a great atmosphere and ability to view all sides of the vehicles.

House of Kolor Inauguration
This takes place at 11 am Saturday morning where the next group of blockbuster show cars and bikes painted in House of Kolor products are unveiled to the public for the first time. This is a process that usually takes constant contact with the builder over a 2-3 year period helping with advice, support and schedule information. When it is confirmed the vehicle will make the show, we meet at 2am Friday morning, prepare the vehicle for showing and have it covered up before all other entrants and public can view it. This is always an exciting part of MotorEx checking out the new vehicles and promotes the use of HOK paints as all unveiled vehicles must be finished in HOK.

Meguiars Superstars
Another feature of MotorEx is the Meguiars Superstars finals held at this show annually. At Summernats and the 5 state title shows we choose 2 hot rods and 2 street machines as finalists for Superstars. All finalists that turn up receive $1500.00 dollars and a one off bomber style jacket. The winners receive $5000.00 and a solid billet trophy valued at $5000.00. This is the custom car pre season (HOK Inauguration) and grand final (Meguiars Superstars) all in one show. The judging for the Superstars starts with a meeting of all entrants and judges on the Friday afternoon, the build books from all entrants are studied and the judges take a look at all vehicles. Fresh on Saturday morning they start going over every detail, usually with a result around 3pm on Saturday. After the judges and stewards meeting and everything confirmed the presentation is Saturday at 5.30 pm followed by a cocktail function where the winners are interviewed and an industry speaker has a short presentation. The reason for the Meguiars Superstars presentation on Saturday is the winner has all day Sunday to show off their car with the premium prize in the Australian custom car industry. The judges used are the best in their field in Australia having years of experience building and working on cars in their specific fields of design, body, paint, engineering, trimming etc. This is extremely important as some cars have spent up to half of a million dollars and incredible amount of time, passion and emotion going into all vehicles. The winners this year were: Hot Rod, Peter Elliot, 37 Ford Roaster, Street Machine, Laurie Seguna, Gemini, Hitec Tuner, Sean Parsons, Subaru WRX.

Hot Rod Winners

Along with all these inclusions is the second hall housing several hundred of the best muscle, exhibition, race and club cars in Australia, and not forgetting the latest bikes and custom choppers on the planet. This year we had a Kenworth prime mover covered in murals and custom paintwork. As well as checking out all the vehicles there are 50 of the most passionate traders dedicated to the auto industry not only selling their goods but really helping out with advice and instructions for any project you may be thinking about building. Congratulations to all people involved with this great show, looking forward to next year already.
