How to fix faded plastic on a car

The exterior of a car can be compared to our skin, with constant exposure to the sun overtime it will age but maybe not wrinkle. Most of us understand that to a car looking its best you need to wash it regularly but how many of you maintain your unpainted exterior plastic trims or mouldings?

You’ll find that after years of neglect from sitting outside in the sun and unprotected your exterior plastic trims will begin to fade but with little effort it’s actually quite easy to restore your plastic trims to look like new! Meguiar’s offers 2 great products which will help you fix and restore your faded car plastics. We’ll show you how easy it is to do below.

The Meguiar’s Ultimate Black Trim Sponges is a neat product which you could use on the fly when you are out and about on the weekend, at car shows or at home your driveway. The pack includes 2 pre-treated ready-to-use sponges to restore all your exterior plastic, vinyl & rubber trim such as bumpers, mouldings, door handles, rear view mirror housings & windshield cowlings. The sponges are packaged inside a re-sealable bag.

Using light pressure, apply the sponge evenly and thoroughly to the desired area. You will start to notice the product being dispensed from the sponge and onto your plastic trims. Wipe off any excess with a clean towel and discard sponge after use.

TIP: As the sponge begins to dry out, apply more pressure to the sponge. You may find that you will need to re-apply the sponges 2-3 times for neglected areas. Re-seal the bag to ensure the second sponge stays moist.

All done! The front bumper trim on this car is now looking just like new. It’s as simple as that!

Alternatively, you could also use Meguiar’s Ultimate Protectant Dash & Trim Restorer which can be used for both interior and exterior applications.

Apply a small amount of Ultimate Protectant onto Hand Applicator Pad and begin to work into the desired area.

We’ve begun working on the plastic tailgate trim of this Nissan Navara to demonstrate the before and after results.

After you have evenly applied Ultimate Protectant across the desired area, buff and wipe off any excess product with a terry towelling cloth.

All done! Ultimate Protectant easily brings new life back into your neglected exterior trims but also withstands washing and rain without streaking and added protection that will last and last. With the right products and a bit of time you will find that it is effortless to bring some life back into your plastic trims.
